Robin A. Felder, Ph.D., Co-founder, Chairperson

As a University Professor and Director of the Medical Automation Research Center at the University of Virginia, Robin has been awarded over $30 million during the past 15 years to fund a research and development group that has produced over 180 publications, been granted numerous patents, and is recognized as a leading center in the areas of medical devices, laboratory automation, and biotechnology. In addition, he has notably bridged the gap between the academic research laboratory and the entrepreneurial community by receiving Small Business Technology Transfer grants to commercialize high-tech innovations. Since the late 1990s, Robin has fostered the technology transfer of a number of ventures from the University of Virginia. His affiliation with professional organizations includes the Council for High Blood Pressure Research, and the American Association for Clinical Biochemists. Dr. Felder has published over 260 research papers, been awarded eight patents, and has presented over 140 lectures in fifteen foreign countries. Dr. Felder received his B.S. in Chemistry from the College of William and Mary, a Ph.D. in biochemistry from Georgetown University, and a post doctorate at the National Institutes of Health.

Uday Gupta, M.B.A., Co-founder, President & CEO

Mr. Gupta has extensive management consulting experience with an emphasis on business and technology strategy, financial analysis, and operational and quality management. He has advised and consulted to Fortune 500 companies in many different industries including healthcare, manufacturing and telecom. In addition, he has led numerous new product development initiatives as well as performed various roles within sales and marketing to procure new business opportunities and partnerships. He earned a M.B.A. at the Darden Graduate School of Business Administration at the University of Virginia. He holds a B.S. in Biology from Virginia Commonwealth University.

Ian Ratcliffe, M.B.A.
CEO, Stemgent

Mr. Ratcliffe is currently the CEO of Stemgent, a leading company delivering tools and expertise in advance stem cell science. Prior to Stemgent, Mr. Ratcliffe was President of Upstate, a leading provider of cell signaling research products and services. He also previously served as Upstate’s COO, CFO and EVP of Sales and Marketing. In his final post as President, Mr. Ratcliffe was instrumental in facilitating the acquisition of Upstate by Serologicals Corp., and he served as President of the Upstate division. Ian received his M.B.A. from the Darden Graduate School of Business Administration at the University of Virginia where he was awarded a William Shermet Award and Faculty Award for Academic Excellence. Mr. Ratcliffe is Chairman of Enzymatics (Boston, MA), a manufacturer of molecular biology reagents, and a Non-Executive Director of Asterand (LSE: ATD), a global supplier of characterized human tissue and human tissue-based research services.

Joerg Pochert, Ph.D
Director Business Unit Laboratory and Sensors
Hamilton Bonaduz AG, Switzerland

Dr. Joerg Pochert is the Director of the Laboratory and Sensors business unit at the Hamilton Company overseeing all aspects of R&D, manufacturing, and distribution. Prior to his current position, Dr. Pochert had been the Director of Hamilton’s Pharma and Biotech business unit where he was instrumental in the launch of a number of products including their market-leading liquid handling workstation, the STAR. Dr. Pochert graduated from the University of Cologne/Germany with a master’s degree in Chemistry and holds a PHD in Physical Chemistry from the ETH (Swiss Federal Institute of Technology) in Zurich. He also completed a joined executive MBA program in Business Engineering from the Universities of St.Gallen/Switzerland (HSG) and Santa Clara/CA (SCU).
